There is nothing more American than protest. Protest of oppression. Protest of injustice. This nation was founded on protest. The freedom to assemble, the freedom of self representation, the freedom of self determination, the freedom to live unshackled, the freedom to vote, the freedom to love... all products of protest.
And let us not protest solely for the sake of differences of opinion. We should protest, better yet, we are obligated to protest whenever and wherever we see injustice and unrighteousness. It is not simply a civic right; it's a moral obligation.
Protest is as much of an American tradition as freedom. For without one you would not have the other.
